After giving twenty-eight years of service and protection to the Jackson Police Department, Tyrone decided to retire from the Department as Deputy Chief of the Community Services Division and set his career goals on becoming an elected official.

In 2011, the citizens of Hinds County overwhelming elected Tyrone Lewis as the First African American Sheriff of Hinds County. While Sheriff of Hinds County, Tyrone L. Lewis managed a $10million budget in addition to overseeing operations from Public Safety, Detention Center, Emergency Management, Penal Farm and Constables. Because of Tyrone’s eagerness to transform flawed systems and erect systems that would reframe the Sheriff’s Department’s overall operations, Tyrone seized more cash, guns, cars, and drugs during his tenure as Sheriff of Hinds County than any other elected official who preceded him. As Sheriff, he unified neighborhoods by adopting neighborhood watch programs and empowering residents. During his tenure as Sheriff, Tyrone devised a plan to increase efficiency with neighboring metro law enforcement, which led to increased optimal employee performance with a simple reallocation of $2million dollars in funds to increase patrols, utilize technology, and reduced the number of layoffs, furloughs, and pay cuts.

Presently, Sheriff Tyrone L. Lewis is the owner of Specialized Security, LLC (SS). Specialized Security specializes in Armed and Unarmed Guard Patrol; Security Consultation; Investigative Services, Executive Protection, Commercial and Residential Security.
